EN PAPEL: A Contemporary Look at Latino Printmakers in the U.S. postcard
TANA Artists are currently featured in an exhibit at the Mission Cultural Center in San Francisco titled En Papel: A Contemporary Look at Latino Printmakers in the U.S.. This exhibit was curated by Juan Fuentes and Maurizzio Hector Pineda. The exhibit features the artwork of the talleres/printshops that are part of the Consejo Grafico (National Council of Latino Printmakers). The opening reception for this exhibition was May 18th, 2011. On June 1st from 6:30-9:30pm at the Mission Cultural Center there will be discussion panel featuring artists in the exhibition and scholars of Chicana/o Art.

TANA Literary Series: May 2011, Michael Luis Medrano & Tim Z. Hernandez
On May 13th, 2011, TANA held its first series of literary readings featuring the writers, Michael Luis Medrano and Tim Z. Hernandez. The reading was well attended and featured storytelling from Medrano’s collective of peotry titled “Born in the Cavity of Sunsets” and from Hernandez’s novel “Breathing, In Dust.”
The TANA Spring 2011 Silkscreen Workshop is the last of the three series of workshops offered through the 2010-2011 academic year. This Spring 2011 Workshop began with a mandatory introductory silkscreen demonstration which included instruction on how to create a silkscreen print and the relationship of TANA to the Chicana/o Arts Movement. Professor & TANA Director Carlos Jackson of Chicana/o Studies at UC Davis conducted the silkscreen Demonstration on April 7th, 2011 with an estimated 35 attendees from the Woodland community.
The TANA Winter Workshop schedule consisted of sessions held four days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursdays from 3-6pm and Saturdays from 11-4pm. TANA is open 5 days a week from Thursday through Saturday from 12-6 pm (Tuesday-Friday) and Saturday from 11-4pm.
TANA will conclude the Spring 2011 Workshop with an Open House on Friday, June 3rd 2011, from 4-7pm. This open house will also coincide with the opening of TANA’s newest exhibition featuring the artwork of TANA Interns Gilda Posada, Roque Montez, and Selin Coleri. TANA Artist-in-Residence, Jaime Montiel, during the Winter of 2011 created a silkscreen print to demonstrate to TANA workshop participants how a silkscreen print is created. Jaime Montiel broke down the silkscreen print into separate stencil and each individual stencil was exhibited along with the final product in the TANA Gallery during the months of March-May. Included in this demonstration was a color study painting of the image Jaime would create as a silkscreen print. Please see below for photos of the poster in layers and installed in the gallery.

TANA Concluded the Winter 2011 Silkscreen Workshop session with an Open House on Saturday March 19th from 2-4pm. Approximately 20 youth and community workshop participants brought family and friends to share the artwork they created during the Winter workshop.
